What is SportsEngine and MySE?
SportsEngine (owned by NBC Sports) is an all-in-one youth sports platform for leagues, youth sports organizations, athletes, and parents.
MySE is a consumer-facing tool in SportsEngine platform designed to help parents to manage their kid's sports life. It includes scheduling, bill pay, and communication tools.
So what's the problem?
While there’s great value to be had within MySE, the onboarding experience is confusing, clunky, and has high attrition.

My Account Guide
Bias for Action
I inherited ownership of the MySE experience as the lead designer in 2018. We received the previous designer's backlog of product initiatives that focused on experiences after parents had successfully onboarded to the platform.
As a user of MySE, I took initiative to audit our existing onboarding experience with the intent of prototyping and pitching an intentional, step-by-step, guided approach. Sometimes, in order to get buy-in, leadership needs to see and experience what could be and work backwards.
My goal was to influence the product roadmap and get leadership approval to prioritize improvements to account onboarding.
Who is this onboarding experience for?
Parents and guardians of kids who play youth sports.
More specifically, I designed for our "Natalie" persona – a busy mom of 3 who values her time, needs some help with planning family activities, and wants to be able to have easy access to her kid’s coaches and other parents.

Note: I had a full breakdown of the previous onboarding experience where I highlighted opportunities for improvement, but that document has escaped me. I'll jump straight to the visuals.

Outcome
I presented this concept to my product leaders, and we were able to get this initiative ranked on the product roadmap (or Power Rankings, as we called it). However, I left SportsEngine before we were able to make this concept a reality.
